Why Dogs Don't Drive Trucks

I love this set of photos, they just crack me up. They look like an old couple. I can almost hear Kootenai nagging Desi, "No right. Right! Didn't you see the turn you stupid dingo!"

Snow in Them Thar Hills

The leaves have left most of the trees and this morning I awoke to snow in the hills. Bogus Basin's webcam shows the first frosting of winter. High of 32 degrees and low of 27 today at the resort. Winter is on the way!

Autumn is my favorite season, but I find as one season turns to another I am always looking forward to the next. Recently, I can't get the thought of cutting turns on the slopes of Anthony Lakes from my mind. I'm also pretty stoked about getting out into the backcountry this winter. It'll be my first year trying my hand at ski mountaineering.

The Stupid Dingo has been quite absent from my posts of late. In her honor here's a couple of my favorite powder hound snapshots:

Ok, so it's not a winter shot, but check out that glissading dingo!

An Odd Moniker

Stupid Dingo. An odd moniker and for those that don't know me well, and I should probably explain.

A loving insult if you will. She answers to it, and so did Tonto, but it probably isn't right.

Her real name is Kootenai. A name I chose based on a dream about a blue healer named Selway I had while living in Missoula many years back. When I finally settled down enough to share my life with a best friend I looked for a mutt with some blue healer in her. I don't have much land so a true Cattledog was not practical. I settled on a healador (an Australian Cattledog - Labrador Retriever mix). She joins me on almost everywhere.

But when she runs in front of cars chasing cats, lopes into screen doors and rolls in mystery stench she answers to another name, my Stupid Dingo.

Monster Dawg Pull Champion

I couldn't borrow my dingo's nickname without including shots from her championship pull at the 2005 McCall Winter Carnival Monster Dawg Pull.

Daddy, what should I do?
Look at the extension on takeoff! Mush! Mush!
Airborne, that's 50 lbs. of kibble she's pulling, and she's a 50 lb. dawg.
Medal-wearing dingo.
